An Amazing Birthday

I had a fabulous first birthday as a Mom.  The staff decorated our table with balloons and signs.  The kids made beautiful cards and Juanita (the head cook) made me pancakes, bananas, and strawberries.  We all shared it along with my traditional bowl of Trix cereal.
After a great breakfast, we headed to a mall to see a movie.  The movie "Cars 2" just came out, and the kids love Lightening McQueen.  We all had a great time, but again, everything is in Spanish!  After the movie, we headed to a restaurant called Jenno's Pizza.  It has some of the best pizza we have had in Bogota.  They have a huge slide to go on and big Play Land for the kids to play in.  They really enjoyed playing after lunch. 
Juanita made a special dinner of fajitas, and I was surprised with a huge chocolate cake.  There are a lot of families here, so it was a lot of fun.  Our agency rep came and gave me an orchid, which was very special.  The best part was saved for last.  The hotel hired a Marachi Band for me in celebration of my birthday!

The kids went to the mall for a visit with Santa.  We don't go to the mall often so it was a new excursion for the kids.  Although they enjoyed seeing Santa and the Christmas decorations, the highlight of the trip was walking through the Disney store and playing at the lego store.  The next time we have a free evening, we will have to go back again.

The Pledge of Allegiance

Part of our morning routine when we start school each day is to say the Pledge of Allegiance.  We included a video below.  We have a very structured day right now, and it has really helped the kids.    We have had a lot of appointments since we have been home, as we take the kids to the eye doctor, dentist, and pediatrician.  Here is an example of a normal day, when we can stay at home: 8:00 - 9:00  Make beds and take a shower 9:00 - 10:00 Eat breakfast and do all of our chores 10:00 - 1:00 School and learning time 1:00 Lunch and homework Fun play inside and outside for the afternoon 6:30 - 8:30 Eat dinner, do chores, and enjoy family time together The kids are doing really well as they continue to transition into their new home.  They are learning everything so fast, and we are working hard to catch them up in school.  They have made so much progress since we arrived home, and we are so proud of them.  They have gone through so muc...

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a very nice Thanksgiving, and the kids loved everything this year.  They are so much more open now to trying different foods and like almost everything, except celery!  Now that they knew what was involved, the idea of stuffing the turkey was not very exciting.  So, they watched, and we stuffed!  As we celebrated our second Thanksgiving together, our challenges have become less, and the kids continue to adjust to their new life in our family.   We have a lot to be thankful for as we begin our second holiday season together.
